The Introduction to Millinery Short Course takes place in my studio over three 2 hour sessions (approximate timing depending on individual progress) 10am - 12pm
Session 1
An introduction to millinery materials, tools and blocking technique. You will be guided through the process of blocking of wool felt onto a small button block.
Session 2
Removing felt from the block, head fixing methods and finishing the structure of the hat. You will learn how to remove the felt from the block, strengthen the internal edge with French canvas, be shown how to attach elastic head fixing and finish the inside with velvet ribbon.
Session 3
Exploring decorations and embellishments. Let your creativity flow as you design the decorations and embellishments for your hat and add the finishing touches to your handcrafted bespoke hat.
All materials and a hat box will be provided as well as refreshments and complimentary parking. No experience is necessary, there will be some basic hand sewing required but this can be taught if necessary.
To finish your hat and learn all the techniques you will need to attend all three sessions, unfortunately, separate catch up sessions cannot be offered.

Accessibility Information
My studio is located on the first floor of the converted stable block at Hylands Estate. There is a lift servicing the first floor but access to my studio involves using a narrow corridor which is not sufficient width for a standard wheelchair. If this is likely to be an issue relevant to booking this course, please let me know and I will discuss alternative arrangements.
There will be periods of standing during the course but seating can be accommodated if required, please advise in advance.
